Before Takeoff — Catalonia, Spain Photography Print

A hot air balloon's wicker basket lies on its side in the grass in Before Takeoff, its brown and green envelope only partly filled as a small inflation fan works nearby. "Generalitat de Catalunya" is printed across the fabric, marking this quiet field prep scene as distinctly Catalan, with bare trees and overcast sky rounding out the rural backdrop.

The low, straight-on composition captures the unglamorous mechanics behind a balloon flight — patched canvas, rope rigging, and worn wooden crating — before the calm, aerial views that follow. Muted greens and browns and soft, diffused light give the photograph an honest, behind-the-scenes quality.
